Sunday’s Child, a Pensacola Bay area nonprofit that promotes LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality, has announced the selection of eight finalists vying for four grants of $25,000 each.
For 2020, Sunday’s Child raised $100,000 among 168 members. Those dollars will be awarded to Pensacola Bay Area non-profit organizations that place value on diversity, inclusion, and equality. Council on Aging of Northwest Florida, INERTIA Education Programs, Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge, Pensacola Humane Society, Children’s Home Society of Florida, Gulf Coast Kids House, OASIS Florida, and SEASTARS will all have the opportunity to present their projects to members at the Sunday’s Child Annual Meeting later in June.
Launched in 2014, Sunday’s Child uses a model similar to Impact 100 — individual members or member ensembles donate $1,000 annually, with 100 percent of funds going toward grant awards.
Grant applications are vetted by members and winners are determined by the votes of members at the annual meeting on June 28.
“This year has certainly come with challenges we never expected,†said Gary Rhodes, board president of Sunday’s Child. “Many of our non-profit organizations are experiencing an increased demand for services and at the same time many vital fundraising events have been postponed or cancelled. I am thankful that our innovative and adaptive members were able to find a way to continue our mission of supporting our local organizations in this unusual environment.â€
Over the past six years Sunday’s Child has raised over $536,000. One hundred percent of dollars raised have funded projects that impacted areas such as child welfare, animal welfare, hunger issues, LGBTQ+ causes, health, adults with disabilities, and the arts.
