Sunday’s Child approves $120K in grants

Sunday’s Child, a Pensacola-area nonprofit that promotes LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality, awarded grants to four Pensacola Bay area charities on Sunday, June 26 at its 8th annual membership meeting.

The 174 members of Sunday’s Child funded and selected the projects and initiatives by the Pensacola Mess Hall, Harvest Community Outreach, The Ella L Jordan African American Museum and Pensacola Humane Society. Each of the four organizations will receive $30,000 to fund their projects.

Pensacola Mess Hall will use the funds for the “Bias Inside Us” project, which will allow them to bring in an exhibition which demystifies the concept of bias through hand-on interactives, testimonials and videos to the Mess Hall and to schools.

Harvest Community Outreach will now have sufficient dry and cold storage which enables them to continue and expand the work they do to feed anyone in need in our community without worrying about food spoilage.

The Ella L Jordan African American Museum renovation was nearly finished on the historical home, but they needed a bit more financial help to complete the project and open it to the public. This Grant has made that possible.

Finally, The Pensacola Humane Society will purchase an x-ray machine so that injured pets that are brought into the shelter can be diagnosed and treated there, enabling owners to keep their pets and avoid euthanasia due to lack of funds.

“As always, it was difficult for our members to choose only four grant recipients out of so many great applications,” said Trudy King, President of Sunday’s Child. “It was an exciting afternoon for all of us and especially for the grant winners.Thank you to everyone who participated in the Grants process by giving their valuable time and skills this year.”

Membership for 2023 is now open. For more information, visit www.sundayschild.org.
