UWF Football
The University of West Florida football team remains undefeated after winning a shootout on the road against Delta State. Ranked #3 nationally, UWF Argos defeated the DSU Statesmen 51-38.
- It was the highest combined score for an Argos game this season, with 89 points scored. When it looked like UWF was going to run away with the game from the start, Delta State had a response in what was a shootout game for four quarters.
“I love our resilience,” said head coach Kaleb Nobles. “We’ve been in tough battles on the road. That’s a tough win. That’s a playoff-caliber team. Man, I’m proud of our guys,”
UWF finished the game with 279 rushing yards and 189 passing yards. Leading the offense was quarterback Marcus Stokes, who did a little bit of everything in the game. Stokes was 16-of-22 for 178 yards passing with a touchdown while also leading the team in rushing with 133 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. The red-shirt sophomore also sealed the game with a 61-yard rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give UWF the 51-38 lead. The Argos rushed for five touchdowns in total, including two by TJ Lane and one by Ty’Ray Davis, in addition to the two from Stokes.
It was a strange game for the Argo defense, which only gave up 104 rushing yards and forced Delta State’s quarterback Garrett Ames into just six completions on 25 passing attempts. But those six completions went for 232 yards and three touchdowns. The Statesmen averaged 38.7 yards per completion. DSU wide receiver Curtis Rearden caught four passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Outside of those four completions, West Florida didn’t allow the hosts to get into any type of offensive rhythm. Tony Newsome helped the Argos keep the lead as he picked off two passes on back-to-back Delta State drives in the fourth quarter.
West Florida will be on a bye week this upcoming week. The Argos will have a chance to complete its first-ever undefeated regular season in two weeks when the team hosts Valdosta State for the regular season finale on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. With a win in that game, UWF would also claim the Gulf South Conference title.

10-seed Alabama knocks off 7-seed South Carolina
A pair of late goals lifted the Alabama soccer team (11-7-1) to a 2-0 victory over South Carolina (10-4-5) on Sunday in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Larkin Thomason netted the game-winner in the 76th minute of action, while Gianna Paul sealed the victory for the Tide in the 89th minute.
From Head Coach Wes Hart: “So proud of how our team competed today and grinded out a result against a very good South Carolina team. Probably some of the best defending I’ve seen from us all year. Katie Shae Collins is one of the best forwards in the country and has been a thorn in our side the last three times we’ve played. I knew if we could contain her and limit her impact, we would have a very good chance of winning.”
How It Happened
- An evenly paced first half saw Alabama and South Carolina heading into the break with a 0-0 score as UA held a narrow 6-5 lead in shots.
- Larkin Thomason broke the stalemate in the 76th minute
- Melina Rebimbas sent a long ball into the box, finding Thomason running towards the net, who flicked the ball past the USC goalkeeper
- The Tide traded shots with the Gamecocks over the next 10 minutes, before Gianna Paul sealed UA’s victory in the 89th minute
- Paul battled her way into the box, firing off a shot that was saved by Christina Tsaousis
- Paul would race to grab the rebounded save before placing it in the back of the net
- Madi Munguia tallied six saves to record her fourth shutout
- With the win, Alabama will compete in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament for the fifth consecutive year
Highlight: Catherine Rapp’s goal propels 6-seed Kentucky over 11-seed Florida
With an 11th-minute goal from Catherine Rapp and a second consecutive shutout, (6) Kentucky (12-4-3, 5-2-3 SEC) knocked off (11) Florida (6-7-5, 2-3-5 SEC), 1-0, in the First Round of the 2025 Southeastern Conference Soccer Tournament.
With the victory, the Wildcats have now won 12 matches in a season for the first time in the four years under Head Coach Troy Fabiano, with half of those victories coming against league opposition. The victory was also the first win in the SEC Tournament since the 2014 semifinals, with Kentucky only advancing once in that stretch via a draw and penalty kicks. Fabiano is now 1-2-1 in the league tournament.
The Wildcats were able to jump to an early lead, scoring in the first 11 minutes of a match for the eighth time this season. Anna Sikorski was able to play a ball from near midfield to Tanner Strickland, who was waiting just outside the 18-yard box. Strickland was able to take a touch past multiple defenders and find Kendall Campbell on the right wing, who distributed a perfect cross along the ground to Rapp. Waiting at the back post, Rapp was able to deliver a clean, first-touch finish to give her team the advantage.
The goal was the first for Rapp since August 31 and her first career goal against an SEC opponent, marking her sixth tally of the season. On the assists, Strickland picked up her team-leading seventh dime of the year while Campbell tallied her first assist as a Wildcat.
Tatum Borman’s 88th-minute goal lifts Mississippi State past OU

The Bulldog freshman played 35 minutes off the bench and made every one of them count. She fired off three shots, all on frame, culminating with her unassisted winner. Borman received a throw-in and dribbled past two defenders before shooting from the top of the box for a successful strike off the crossbar.
“I’m really proud of the way we played tonight. You know from the start of the game, we created some really good chances,” head coach Nick Zimmerman said. “We played our style of football. You know, we wanted to have it. We dominated possession, and we created really good chances. Credit to this group and the resiliency to keep fighting and score an absolute worldly to win the game. Really, really proud of the group, and now we rest and recover as we get ready to play against a really good Arkansas team.”
