Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has six goals for himself. He is completing his sixth year in office. He has done well on two of them. The other four he has not –which gives him a “D†on most grading scales.
1. All schools scoring “C” or above on state accountability system. The school grades are headed in the wrong direction.

3. Within 3 years (by the 2012-2013 school year) 90% of all 2nd grade students will read on grade level. We don’t have the 2nd grade reading scores, but this year’s third graders were the 2012-2013 2nd graders: 45 percent read below their grade level
4. Schools will reduce the number of out of school suspensions by at least 10% by providing alternative consequences that will change behavior. Out of school suspension are down, in-school up and overall are only down 6%.
