The Pensacola Beer Festival is not happening. Again.
For the second year in a row, the local beer festival has been cancelled. The event organizer blames low interest as the reason behind the cancellation.
“Ticket sales were kind of low,†said David Faulk.
The Faulk Foundation for Kids, Inc. and Faulk Brothers LLC was planning the “inaugural Pensacola beerfest†for April 13-15 at the Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds. Along with a wide selection of craft beers to taste, the event was also featuring a $2500 prize for the winner of a bikini contest. The “inaugural†event was also slated for 2011, before being cancelled.
This year, Faulk said, the cancellation was due to low ticket sales and a lack of vendors. Some vendors, apparently, were hesitant to sign on to a festival with low ticket sales; the organizer said that not enough vendors had signed on to offset his upfront costs.
“I put it on hold this year and will take a look at it next year,†Faulk said. “I’ll start speaking with vendors in the fall and see if there’s some interest.â€
Last year’s event was cancelled due to liquor-license complications. Faulk said that he ended up losing about $30,000 on the cancelled 2011 event.
The Pensacola Beer Festival website—pensacolabeerfest.com—has yet to note the cancellation. The site advertises the cancelled April festival as occurring in the middle of May.
