Daily News reports 40 to 50 local Republicans and tea party members attended budget workshop held by the Okaloosa County commissioners and told them to resist raising property taxes for fiscal 2012.
The county faces a $4.1 million budget shortfall for fiscal 2012 because of a projected $1.7 million drop in revenue and a $2.4 million jump in expenses. Okaloosa County now has the lowest countywide millage rate among the state’s 67 counties—3.2 mils. Escambia County is 6.976.
