The parameters of a discussion regarding Escambia County Administrator Randy Oliver’s contract remain a mystery. The county commission is scheduled to take up the matter during tomorrow’s work session.
“I guess we’ll find out tomorrow,†Commissioner Kevin White said this morning.
County Attorney Allison Rogers placed the administrator’s contract on the commission’s agenda following a request by a commissioner to do so.
“I honestly don’t know how it’s going to play out,†she said. “I’m not kidding when I say I really don’t know where it’s going to go.â€
Oliver’s contract has been brought up on prior occasions by commissioners Wilson Robertson and Gene Valentino. Valentino will be out of town for tomorrow’s meeting and Robertson said he did not request the agenda item.
“I could kind of do some deduction and know it wasn’t me and it wasn’t Gene cause he’s out of town,†Robertson said.
When the administrator’s contract was brought up previously, both commissioners Grover Robinson and Marie Young have been supportive of Oliver.
“I’m as shocked as anybody that it’s on there,†Robinson said of the agenda item. “And not really the happiest that it is.â€
The commissioner said he had “no idea†what the discussion would entail. He described Oliver as having provided “stability†to the county.
Commissioner White declined to comment when asked if he had asked Rogers to place the item on the agenda.
“All I can say is watch tomorrow and see what happens,†White said.
The Escambia County Commission work session begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the county’s Palafox street complex.
