Thomas relents and gives Lincoln Park another year

The Pensacola News Journal is reporting that Escambia County Superintendent of Schools Malcolm Thomas today told the school’s faculty and staff that he will not close their school. According the newspaper, enrollment has increased from 200 students at the beginning of the year to near 281.

An interesting side note: The principal of Lincoln Park is Christine Nixon, the principal Thomas reassigned when he personally took over Warrington Middle School in 2009. Nixon was being punished and now has turned that punishment into a success story. While Thomas has pumped hundred of thousands into Warrington Middle with little success, Nixon has had to fight to keep her school open and actively recruited students with no help from the District administration.
