I am.
No matter how many times we unsubscribe – yet another email comes from them. It’s either a “newsletter” from Dave Murzin or Clay Ford or right-wing conservative babble from Bob Pappas or some tip on gardening.
There is a way to stop the spam according to this email I received today:
I’m pretty sure you feel the same way about Gulf1.net/.com as I do.
I did a little research and found that they are actually in direct violation of the CAN-SPAM Act set forth by our government.
A summary of the act can be found here:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/canspam.shtm
In particular, they are in violation of this statement:
“You may create a “menu” of choices to allow a recipient to opt out of certain types of messages, but you must include the option to end any commercial messages from the sender.”
Gulf1.net maintains a master list of email addresses, when a new list is created, it is populated with the master list. They never provide an opt-out from the master list, only from individual sub lists.
If you have 5 minutes, I would ask you to file a complaint with the FTC. I did, it was quick and painless.
You can file a complaint at this phone number:
1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357)I’ve been telling Gulf1.net that what they are doing is wrong for years. Today was the day that the straw broke the camel’s back and I’ve decided to take action against that most annoying of web sites. I’ve also filed a complaint with their hosting company through this email address:
hostingabuse@networksolutions.com
I suggest you directly contact any politician, newspaper columnist or radio show host who uses Gulf1 and let them know you don’t appreciate the spam.
