Today’s COW

two-cowsThe Pensacola City Council meets this afternoon for its Committee of the Whole session. An item pertaining to possibly relocating the YMCA to the Community Maritime Park has gotten a lot of attention, but there’s also other business the council will tend to.

In addition to hearing an update on the city’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling stations and a Visit Pensacola-presentation on how bed-tax dollars are used to market the area, the council will also discuss regulations related to the possession of a weapon on city property. Members will also discuss options for the use of the Tree Planting Trust Fund.

The city council will also be asked to adopt a resolution in support of accepting a grant form the Florida Department of Transportation, to be used for purchasing more properties in order to acquire land for a commerce park at the Pensacola International Airport.

The FDOT grant—$1.8 million—will fund 75 percent of the cost associated with purchasing the final eleven properties remaining in ‘Phase I’ of the commerce park. The airport must repay 25 percent of the grant within 10 years; FDOT has authorized the airport to use its prior capital purchase as an in-kind contribution to off-set the 25 percent repayment provision.

Today’s Committee of the Whole meeting begins at 3:15 p.m. at Pensacola City Hall.
