Top Five Reads for the week, 12/8/24 edition

The blog had a 15% increase in readership last week, even though I spent one day out of town.

1. We broke the news that five Beggs & Lane attorneys were leaving the firm to open a Pensacola office for GrayRobinson. This firm successfully defended Supervisor of Elections Robert Bender against Bruce Childers, the husband of County Clerk Pam Childers.  Read more.

2. Readers were also fascinated by who will replace Congressman Matt Gaetz. We opened the week with my bookie, Gizmo, setting up this parlay sheet for the U.S. House of Representatives Florida District 1 primary and special election. When the qualifying period ended on Friday, we were the first to publish the names of the 16 candidates, which included a few surprises.

Our new podcast created two posts that attracted readers:

3. Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves discusses his first two years in office, the tremendous growth at the Pensacola International Airport, and Palafox Street’s underground tunnels. Read more.

4. University of West Florida President Dr. Martha Saunders stated that the entire collection of T.T. Wentworth’s papers has been cataloged and is available online here. Read more.

5. And we beat the other media with a preview of the preliminary renderings of the airport terminal expansion. Read more.
