Little-known Pensacola attorney Zach Smith has tried to make a name for himself as Pensacola’s DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) enforcer. As trustess for both the University of West Florida and Pensacola State College, he has pressured UWF President Martha Saunders to resign and got PSC to drop its affiliation with PBS. He has not reached out beyond the UWF and PSC campuses.
Smith tried to get the Pensacola City Council to drop a drag show from performing at the Saenger Theatre, which failed. He also objected to PSC from hiring the former executive director of Achieve Escambia, because the nonprofit once had an equity statement on its website.

Meanwhile, Interm UWF President Manny Diaz delivered a State of the University address, which many saw as a tribute to former President Saunders.
