MANNY’S PAYDAY The University of West Florida Board of Trustees convened this week, and once again, its decisions to create a nice future for Interim President Manny Diaz interested readers. People are stunned that Diaz would have the board spend $1 million on his offices while he’s supposedly only the interim. We now understand the role of the Harry Roy Membership Committee, known by some as the UWF Presidential Search Committee.

Yes, it will most definitely include Diaz in its recommendations of qualified applicants, but its primary function was to get the compensation range for the Division 2 university above $1 million.


GOOD NEWS The Pensacola area’s top philanthropic group, IMPACT 100, announced its finalists.


ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY Escambia County Deputy Chief Andy Hobbs was the only Pensacola State College trustee to vote against cutting ties with PBS and WSRE. Over fifty years of Pensacola history and community service wiped out in one meeting. Heritage Foundation fellow Zack Smith was joined by Gordon Sprague and Dr. Troy Tippett to make it happen. Not one of Pensacola State College’s finest moments, but the college will still have a women’s soccer team.
