Transition Town Series Part 2 and 3

glass421

Join 350 Pensacola for the second in a three-part series of Saturday morning classes featuring hands-on lessons for making your home and life simpler, less expensive, and ready for the disruptions of climate change. Inspired by the international Transition Towns movement in which communities are working together to prepare for climate change, the series will help participants transition to a low-carbon future with smart solutions for the home and yard.

Part Two:
Gardening as Environmental Stewardship
Saturday, October 25, 10 am • Cost: $10

Join Renée Perry and Tom Garner of East Hill Edible Gardening as they explore the use of gardening as an act of environmentalism. Renée and Tom will compare and contrast the value of community gardening versus gardening in your own yard and will discuss how easy it can be to grow fresh fruits and vegetables right outside your own front or back door. We’ll also visit a local community garden as well as several neighborhood vegetable gardens and fruit orchards for an in-person learning experience.

The class meets at End of the Line Café for a brief introduction over coffee and snacks before walking into the adjoining Old East Hill neighborhood to visit homes and gardens where lessons are taught. Classes are limited to 15 people.

Part Three:
How to Build Your Own Backyard Shed or Outbuilding
Saturday, November 1, 10 am • Cost: $10

A backyard shed or cottage can bring great benefits in creating space for self-sufficiency tools and projects, as well as living space that can be an additional source of rental income or provide a home for an aging relative. 350 Pensacola’s Christian Wagley leads the class to several backyard sheds and accessory structures—including one that is fully conditioned and features a bedroom and bath. Learn about construction methods, permitting, sources of building materials, efficient design, and much more. If you need smart space for tools and storage, or more space for living, this class will help you design and even build what you need.

The class meets at End of the Line Café for a brief introduction over coffee and snacks before walking into the adjoining Old East Hill neighborhood to visit homes and gardens where lessons are taught. Classes are limited to 15 people.
