On “(We Don’t) Color on the Dog,” local music sensation Tris Weeks discusses her highly anticipated second EP, “Broken Masterpiece,” and shares her journey from Irish folk inspiration to Nashville recording studios.
Recorded in Nashville with her band Goldmine and acclaimed producer Garrett Miller—who’s worked with industry giants like Kelly Clarkson and Mumford & Sons—this new collection promises a more rock-and-roll edge that longtime fans will love.
Irish Inspiration Meets Gulf Coast Rock
What makes this EP particularly special is its diverse musical landscape. One standout track, “Anya,” draws inspiration from an Irish goddess Weeks discovered during her study abroad program in Ireland last summer.
“The culture and the mythology was just so inspiring to me,” she explains. “I took this guitar and I sat down and this song really just spilled out of me.”
The EP seamlessly weaves together Irish folk influences with the classic rock sound that has made Goldmine Band a Gulf Coast favorite. This blend showcases Weeks’ versatility as both a songwriter and performer, proving she’s not confined to any single genre.
The Magic of Musical Collaboration
Weeks offers fascinating insights into her creative process, revealing how songs transform from solo acoustic pieces to full-band arrangements. Take “Move Along,” one of the EP’s more rock-heavy tracks. Initially envisioned as a country song, it evolved into something entirely different when her drummer suggested a rock riff that captured the band’s imagination.
“There’s a lot of trial and error for sure,” Weeks notes about the collaborative process. “We go off of that riff and try different drum things that worked with it and different bass parts and kind of just play and experiment and have fun until we get somewhere that we like.”
Music with a Mission
Beyond her artistic achievements, Weeks continues her decade-long commitment to philanthropy through music. She’s raised over $20,000 for the Tyler Robinson Foundation, supporting families dealing with the hidden financial costs of pediatric cancer treatment.
