Two Buyers For Brownsville Building?

Escambia County School District Assistant Superintendent for Operations Shawn Dennis told the IN today there are currently two “potential buyers” lined up for the abandoned Brownsville Middle School building.

“I’ve seen one offer and expect another offer this next week,” he said. “We’ve received a verbal (from the second).”

Dennis said the buyers would not be revealed until they are presented to the school board.

The district recently discovered that the leaking water pipe that plagued the Brownsville building late last year was not fixed, running up a $32,000 bill from ECUA that had to be reimbursed.

“We have a leak and until we want to spend some money on finding where its at, we are leaving (the water) shut off,” said Dennis. “The problem has been disclosed to all the buyers.”

The building also was recently vandalized by youth who broke fire extinguishers. Dennis said there have been no other incidents with break ins and said the building “is as secure as any of the other abandoned school buildings” the district owns.
