Greyhound tracks are required to report to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation monthly on the deaths of dogs at their facilities. Since Jan. 1, Pensacola Greyhound Track has had two dogs die.

Al E Mony finished a race on Jan. 11, but then died before it could make it to the veterinarian’s office.

TL Black Diamond got into a collision on the track’s third turn on Jan. 17. It “was trampled which resulted in her front leg being so severely broken she had to be humanely euthanized,” according to the report.

Both the Miami Herald and the Panama City News Herald are following the story of greyhound deaths around the state. Seventy-four greyhounds died at Florida tracks from May 31 to Dec. 31, 2013. That averages to one every three days.

The Florida Legislature will be looking at his issue next month.
