As of 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7 all fire was extinguished and last units from the City of Milton Fire Department cleared the scene and returned to station. All properties were turned over to property owners who may begin the process of recovery or restoration. The Courthouse Professional Mall remains off limits due to the potential risk of collapse of the front (south) and rear (north) walls. U. S. Highway 90 remains closed between Willing Street and Santa Rosa Street for this same reason until these walls can be removed or rendered safe. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office completed its examination of the scene, but final findings await further interviews and follow-up investigation.
As of 6 p.m. the façade of the professional building was demolished. U.S. Highway 90 is expected to open as soon as clean up is complete.
