US infrastructure decaying


According to report issued yesterday by the American Society of Civil Engineers, if the nation doesn’t adequately fund maintenance and expansion of its deteriorating surface transportation infrastructure, the American economy will lose more than 870,000 jobs by 2020, and Gross Domestic Product growth will shrink by $3.1 trillion.

In Florida, Gov. Rick Scott talked on Monday at a meeting with business leaders and elected officials about improving his state’s transportation system. However, the Florida Legislature has repeatedly raided the state’s transportation trust fund and used those dollars to balance the state budget. This year $150 million was taken from the fund that is supposed to be for roads and bridges.
