USO asks for help for Thanksgiving meal for local troops and their families

USO of Northwest Florida will be hosting the 7th Annual Thanksgiving Feast & Festivities at their Naval Air Station location from November 27-30. Donations of food and money for the USO Thanksgiving Feast and Festivities are now being accepted.

The weekend kicks off on Thanksgiving Day with a meal served by USO volunteers and staff. This year, USO Northwest Florida plans on serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings to 1,500 of our local heroes. The festivities continue through Sunday with a Chili Cook-Off, Football Feeding Frenzy, XBOX One tournament, and Movie Marathon.

To volunteer or donate items for any of the events going on throughout the holiday weekend, please contact USO NWFL Operations and Programs Manager, Dana Cervantes-Richardson at 850-485-6279, or email her at dcervantes@uso.org.

Donations can be brought to the USO located aboard NAS Pensacola at 153 Ellyson Ave. Building 625-D, Pensacola, FL 32508. Proper identification is required for access on to the base. Monetary donations can be mailed to: USO NWFL PO Box 33135 Pensacola, FL 32508 or made online at www.uso.org/northwestflorida. Below is a list of items needed:

100 large cans of green beans
50 cans of Cranberry Sauce
100 cases of canned soda and 100 cases of bottled water
Assorted pies, cookies, and desserts (store bought/packaged due to Health Dept codes)
Peanut Frying Oil
Propane – 50 tanks
Bags of charcoal- 100
8 oz Styrofoam cups, paper plates, napkins, paper towels, plastic forks- 2,000
Bags of Ice – 100
Large Foil pans and Commercial grade aluminum foil- 100
100 Bags of Corn Chips
500 Individually packaged snack items, sweet and/or salty
1 cord of Pecan Wood for smokers
Use of 3 large Smokers
10 Extension Cords
Use of refrigerated truck from November 24-27
