UWF Argo Football Preview

podcast

Will Kennedy previews the 2024 University of West Florida Argos football season. The team is ranked 12th nationally, and Gulf South Conference coaches have picked the Argos to finish second behind Valdosta State.

“We’ve got a roster of  118 or so guys to start the fall camp- 60 of them are brand new, ” Kennedy said, “I try to read Coach Caleb Nobles,  and it’s almost like you’re playing poker when you talk to football coaches and you got to look for the tells and kind of get a feel. You’ll ask, ‘Hey, coach, what do you think? How are we looking?’ And he’ll kind of say, ‘I think we’re going to be all right,’ which translations to he thinks they’re going to be pretty good.”

The Argos open the 2024 season on Thursday, Sep. 5,  when they host McKendree at PenAir Field on the UWF campus. Kickoff for the game is at 6 p.m.

“With Valdosta ranked seventh to start the year. We’re ranked 12th nationally and then Delta State at 18th, so it’s going to be a three-horse race in the Gulf South Conference,” Kennedy said. “I think the coaching staff does, too. Not being picked the favorite, especially with a new quarterback and some new faces takes a little bit of the pressure off. ”

He continued, “But that said, I was reading over some preseason stuff we’re putting out, and we’ve won 64 games in just seven seasons of playing football. We’ve been to the playoffs six times. We’ve been to the semi-final three times and won a title. There’s pressure every year.”

Season and single-game tickets for the 2024 home season are currently on sale. Fans can call the UWF Athletics Ticket Office at 850-474-ARGO (2746) or visit GoArgos.com/FootballTix .
