UWF hosts symposium on military-related health issues

Press Release: What: Late Life Trauma Workshop

When: Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: University Commons Conference Rooms A, B and C, University of West Florida, 11000 University Pkwy., Pensacola, Fla., 32514

Why: Eve H. Davison, clinical psychologist with the Women’s Health Sciences Division of the National Center for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), will discuss how retired veterans may develop symptoms of PTSD years after their wartime experience. In the workshop following the presentation, Davison will facilitate discussion on case examples and on potential applications of the research in clinical work with aging combat veterans and other patients who have experienced trauma earlier in their lives. The program is entitled “Interactive Workshop on Late Life Emergence of Early Life Trauma: Findings from the Stress, Health and Aging Research Program (SHARP) at VA Boston.”

The symposium is recommended for community-based mental health professionals, government and uniformed health-care providers and all others who have an interest in deployment health or behavioral health. Four hours of CE credit for the workshop may be obtained. On-site registration will be available at 8:15 a.m. and costs $55.

The University of West Florida’s Center for Applied Psychology (CAP) and the Center on Aging in sponsorship with the Pensacola Naval Hospital Deployment Health and Wellness Center are proud to host the event. The UWF Center for Applied Psychology is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education and maintains responsibility for this program.
