Dr. Laura Dees, professor of education at the University of West Florida, will present the upcoming Rite of Passage lecture, “A Professor’s Legacy,” on Friday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. at the Argonaut Athletic Club at UWF.

The UWF Rite of Passage Lecture Series is a distinguished lecture series celebrating UWF faculty who were recently promoted to full professor. The series gives professors the opportunity to share life lessons outside of the classroom with colleagues, students, friends and community members.

In addition to her role at UWF, Dees serves as a manuscript reviewer for the National Association for Alternative Certification and a consulting editor for Preventing School Failure.

Dees has received multiple awards and honors over the course of her career, including the Distinguished Teaching award, UWF Distinguished Service award and Teaching Incentive Program award at UWF, as well as the Northwest Florida Phi Delta Kappa award for Distinguished Research and Dissertation.

Dees received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University. She received a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction from UWF.

A reception will follow the lecture and the event is free and open to the public.
