Press release: Active Minds @UWF holds the 6th Annual Seeds of Hope 5K, 8 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21. The walk is open to the general public and begins and ends at Apple Annie’s at Seville Quarter, 130 E Government St.
Pre-registration by November 1 ensures that walkers will receive a free t-shirt. Registration will continue the day of the walk and a limited number of t-shirts will be available.
Held on International Survivors of Suicide Day, the walk’s purpose is to spread awareness of suicide prevention, and to give hope to those who have survived a loved one dying by suicide, or have attempted it, or even contemplated it. It is an opportunity to gather around and celebrate our beloved ones past, and to encourage one another to keep fighting on.
Since collaborating with Seville Quarter in memory of Robbie Behm, the walk continues to grow. Last year’s walk had 250 registered walkers raising over $2500! The goal for this walk is to get at least 300 participants to walk this year.
The walk will begin at 8am with the Turkey Trot runners then Seeds of Hope walkers will commence after a short delay. Post walk activities include food, drinks and prizes in Apple Annie’s at Seville Quarter for all runners and walkers. UWF Active Minds will also host live music, an art exhibit, info tables, guest speakers and more for a more intimate setting.
All proceeds from the walk go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the National Non-Profit Active Minds Organization, and the UWF Active Minds chapter.
