UWF’s Dr. Eman El-Sheikh appointed Global Ambassador

The Global Council for Responsible Artificial Intelligence has selected Dr. Eman El-Sheikh, University of West Florida Center for Cybersecurity associate vice president, as Global Ambassador for the United States. The Global Council for Responsible AI is an international governing body committed to fostering the development of AI technologies that are ethical, secure and beneficial for humanity. The council’s mission is to lead and support worldwide efforts in ethical, secure AI development, enhancing societal well-being through inclusive dialogues, comprehensive standards and international cooperation.

“As AI ?continues to advance and i?mpact? every aspect of society, ?there is an urgent need to develop ethical and responsible AI models that protect privacy and against unintended harmful consequences,” El-Sheikh said. “As a Global Ambassador for the Council, I look forward to working with esteemed AI and cybersecurity thought leaders from across the globe to build a responsible AI-enabled future.”

As a Global Ambassador, El-Sheikh will leverage her experience to advocate for secure AI development and responsible AI adoption that benefits society globally. In her role, she will help guide the ethical integration of AI into critical sectors, ensuring its alignment with societal well-being.

The pledge ceremony and inaugural meeting was held at the House of Lords in London, England, on Feb. 20, 2025.

El-Sheikh is a global award-winning leader with over 30 years of expertise in AI, machine learning and cybersecurity. As the AVP at the UWF Center for Cybersecurity, she has led transformative initiatives in cybersecurity and AI education and workforce development, including launching and leading the Cybersecurity for All Program and the National Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program, CyberSkills2Work.org.

DIG DEEPER: Dr. El-Sheikh was awarded the GISEC Global Educator of the Year award at the 2024 GISEC Cyber Excellence Awards conference in Dubai last April. The award recognizes an individual who has made a significant impact in cybersecurity education. GISEC Global is a cybersecurity conference attended by more than 20,000 innovators from all over the world.
