Valentino: Expect Cairo-like uprising against BP

Commissioner Gene Valentino is upset about how BP is dealing with clean-up of our waterways and beaches. According to the commissioner, BP/Unified Command has reduced the number of clean-up workers on Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key to 15-18 workers at each beach area, despite tar balls still washing up on the beach. He recently sent a letter to local BP official asking that the County continue to get the Recon Reports for the segments in our area.

“There are inconsistencies in what we are observing and what’s in the Recon Reports,” Commissioner Valentino told me Friday morning. “It may take a Cairo, Egypt-type event here and along the Gulf Coast region to get the attention of BP and the federal government. I’m talking about civil and legal protests to make sure we deal with this disaster.”

Valentino added, “We can handle this clean-up ourselves, if they will pay us for it.”
