Volunteers offer sports training and competition while helping the athletes grow and showcase their skills. Volunteers also benefit by gaining a greater understanding of and appreciation for people with intellectual disabilities. The Special Olympics make sports accessible to hundreds of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our area.
The program heavily depends on volunteers. You can choose to volunteer your time year-round or on the day of events. Coaches, officials for various sports and mentors for the Athlete Leadership Program are roles you can sign up for. On the professional side, volunteers can help with marketing and communications, fundraising and games management. Any time you have to give is valuable.
