Voter Breakdown by Council District

District Yes %
Wu: 55%
Hall: 53%
DeWeese: 62%
Johnson: 61%
Jerralds: 43%
Cannada-Wynn: 54%
Townsend: 47%

Sam Hall, Maren DeWeese, Larry Johnson and Diane Mack came out big for the charter. Their influence and impact on the voters is evident, especially DeWeese and Johnson.

On the other hand, P.C. Wu is in trouble politically. He made automated phone calls and was quoted on the No Boss Mayor flyer and still his district went 55 percent in favor of the Charter. The last time we saw this a big a gap between a council member and his district was Marty Donovan in 2006 CMP Referendum who saw his district vote 59 percent for the park. Donovan had no opposition in the 2006 City election, but was soundly beat in 2008.

Jewel Cannada-Wynn may not quite have the same issue. She, Jerralds, Townsend and Commissioner Marie Young opposed the charter, yet they couldn’t marshall a significant percentage of NO votes to defeat the charter. None of them could get 60 percent or more of their districts to vote No. In the CMP vote, those districts went 61.4 percent in favor of the park, with the council members’ support.

The African-American community doesn’t like to challenge its politicians, but all four of these are vulnerable.
