The News Service of Florida reports:
with more than 1.75 million votes already cast by mail or in early voting, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner said primary-election day started “very, very smoothly” Tuesday.
Detzner said during a conference call with reporters that the state had a couple of delays in opening polling places in Flagler and Lee counties, and a polling place was moved in Miami Beach because of the need to spray for mosquitoes. But Detzner said the day started without long lines, and weather conditions were not an issue. Voting will continue until 7 p.m., with the state starting to post results online after polls close in the Central time zone.
About 1.2 million voters cast ballots by mail, while another 538,000 people voted early at the polls. Detzner said those totals topped the numbers during the 2012 and 2014 primaries.
On News Talk 1370 WCOA, Escambia County Supervisor of Elections David Stafford said that he thought that about 60 percent of the votes had already been cast during the early voting period and by mail-in ballots.
