Wahoos roster has potential stars


The Cincinnati Reds have announced the preliminary list of players headed to Pensacola for the Blue Wahoos inaugural season. Of the 25 active players on the roster, seven are ranked on the Reds’ top 31 prospects list (ranking listed in parentheses next to their name as they are mentioned below), as named by Baseball America.

Right-handed pitcher Daniel Corcino (6) will help anchor the pitching staff with fellow righties Tim Crabbe (31) and Juan Carlos Sulbaran (12). Donnie Joseph (27) is one of three lefties on the staff with Chris Manno and Clayton Tanner. Mark Fleury and Brian Peacock will serve as their battery mates for the Blue Wahoos.

The infield is stocked with prospects including Didi Gregorius (8) and Henry Rodriguez (17). Others on the infield are highly-touted Brodie Greene, Miguel Rojas, Mike Costanzo, Joel Guzman and P.J. Phillips. The outfield is led by Ryan LaMarre (14). He will be joined by Josh Fellhauer and Cody Puckett.

The Blue Wahoos are managed by Jim Riggleman who has pitching coach Tom Brown and hitting coach Tony Jaramillo by his side in the dugout.

With the exception of a few players selected to participate in the Reds futures game in Cincinnati on Tuesday, the team will arrive from Spring Training in Goodyear, Ariz. at Pensacola International Airport on Sunday afternoon at 3:15. The team will hold workouts on the field on Monday at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. before opening the season at home on Thursday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. against the Montgomery Biscuits. Tickets for Opening Weekend could be available through Blue Wahoos TicketShare which launches Monday at 10:00 a.m. Through the program, season ticket holders can re-sell any future game tickets they can’t use on BlueWahoos.com. Fans are encouraged to check ticket availability online frequently in the event any tickets become available
