The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has honored the Blue Wahoos’ trainer and groundskeeper:
Trainer of the Year
Charles Leddon, Pensacola Blue Wahoos
The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) has notified the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs that Charles Leddon of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos has been named the league’s 2013 Athletic Trainer of the Year, as selected by his peers. Leddon has spent seven seasons in the Cincinnati Reds organization and 2013 was his second season with the Blue Wahoos.
Groundskeeper of the Year
Ray Sayre, Pensacola Blue Wahoos
The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Ray Sayre of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos has been named its 2013 Groundskeeper of the Year, as selected by the league’s field managers and umpires. The honor marks the first time Sayre has been named the circuit’s top groundskeeper. Sayre joined the Blue Wahoos in 2012, which was their inaugural season.
Sayre grew up in Lexington, Ken., where he began his turf career working on the athletic fields for the University of Kentucky. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Turf Grass Management. Before making the move to Pensacola, Sayre worked for several minor league teams including the Louisville Bats (International League), the Greenville Drive (South Atlantic League) and the Bowling Green Hotrods (Midwest League).
