This year the adult honoree is my daughter, Cat Outzen Ellis.

Cat was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis during her senior year of high school, right before the start of her final year as varsity basketball team captain at Gulf Breeze High School in Gulf Breeze, Fla. Her involvement in the Arthritis Foundation began in 2004, when she was selected as the Youth Honoree for the 2004 Arthritis Walk. She was a community board member from 2004-2006 and served as the Arthritis Baste Chair in 2006 – where she raised over $30,000 for the cause.

Cat has been involved with Kids Arthritis Camp for more than seven years, first as an overnight counselor and later as the camp director. The camp has been an Outzen family affair with all of us playing parts in its success. She also visits children stricken with disease, serving as a role model to them and their families.
