Walkable/Bikeable Community Meeting

Local environmental organization Sustainable Gulf Coast is hosting a discussion tomorrow night entitled Linking Pensacola’s Neighborhoods for Bicyclists and Pedestrians.’

The Tuesday night meeting will feature a presentation by Pensacola City Councilwoman Megan Pratt. She will speak about the complete-streets concept and what steps the city can take to increase the use of alternative transportation. The councilwoman serves as the chairwoman of the Complete Streets Ad-Hoc Committee of the City Council and also sits on the Florida/Alabama Transportation Planning Organization.

In a press release, Sustainable Gulf Coast notes the city’s “scattershot approach” to street connectivity in the past. The group is encouraging interested citizens to offer their input to the city’s complete streets committee, which is compiling and prioritizing a list of potential projects and improvements.

The free Oct. 9 discussion will be held at 7 p.m. at the Bayview Senior Resource Center at Bayview Park in East Hill.
