War on Pensacola’s homeless continues

Babyitscold
Occupy Pensacola hasn’t disappeared. The group is still fighting to help the homeless in the city of Pensacola. As the weather turns cooler, many of those living on the streets are at risk. We have reports of City of Pensacola Code Enforcement officers taking away the few meager possessions these people have.

I received this message from a reader yesterday: “City Code Enforcement is taking the belongings of homeless people while they step away and throwing them in dumpsters. This includes blankets, shoes, socks, and jackets. Our city officials need to be held accountable.”

This morning Occupy Pensacola sent out an email asking for donations for the homeless:

Since the 2012 passing of the Pensacola ordinance which made it illegal for people to sleep on the street with any kind of shelter including blankets or tents, it has become apparent that the local police have been confiscating blankets from homeless people in Pensacola.

According to anonymous sources, the homeless involved are afraid to speak out in fear of police retaliation.

It is note worthy to point out that people who erect tents in anticipation of Black Friday sales and midnight movie releases do not succumb to the same treatment.

Fortunately, a small group of Pensacola residents have decided to deal with the problem of shivering homeless and have come together to donate items to the homeless that will keep them warm and won’t violate the recently passed cit council ordinances.

Items will be donated this Sunday between 8 am and 10 pm. The recipients of the donated items, Nick and Megan Alford, will be distributing to the homeless directly around the Pensacola area over the following week. So come out and see what the people of Pensacola think of the city’s recently passed ordinances.
