Watching for possible Tropical weather developments

Tropical Weather Outlook

For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Southwestern Caribbean Sea:
A broad area of low pressure is likely to develop over the
southwestern Caribbean Sea in a few days. Gradual development is
possible thereafter, and a tropical depression could form late this
week or over the weekend while the system begins to drift northward
or northeastward over the southwestern and central Caribbean Sea.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days…medium…40 percent.

On “Real News with Rick Outzen” this morning, Escambia County Public Safety Director Eric Gilmore said his team started watching the pressure system last week, but it’s too early to determine how it will develop.

“The two models we watch are the European and the GFS, and right now only the GFS has been trying to develop something down in the Caribbean. The European has not, it’s just had it as a cluster of thunderstorms but nothing developing out of it,” Gilmore said.

“We do need to watch because of how this season’s been going with just the blob and then a strong storm and then landfall.”
