WABB signed off the air yesterday after nearly forty years of, not just being the soundtrack to most Gulf Coast lives, but also dedicated public service. It went out well and will be missed by several generations of listeners.
The Press Register’s Lawrence Speckler wrote a great piece chronicling, by comparison, the undignified and nasty ends of many of our local corporate radio debacles, turned over too fast, air talents fired, and a depressing launch of the latest gimmick. Read WABB-FM’s graceful exit certainly beat ‘Radio Macarena’
(Cumulus Mobile, with expected and probable class and inventiveness has already launched a station called WABD, which will probably be just like WABB but with much more depressed air talent)
