According to the Neumann report: “The county’s pavement preservation specialist says Hurricane Ivan is to blame. One cent per gallon from the county’s gas tax normally pays for road resurfacing….but that money’s had to be used for other things since Ivan…..Meaning roads like Jackson Street continued to get more and more worn down….to the point where one stretch is now shut down. ”
[Am I the only one who thinks it’s a little strange the county has a pavement preservation specialist?]
County road dept has $1.75 million for paving and resurfacing. And plans to ask for double that next year.

RO Note: Sorry, it couldn’t be done this year. We’re buying a microwave tower instead. We added $800,000 to code enforcement. Maybe next year if we get a windfall larger that $31.3 million the county will do something about the roads.
