Today’s the day. Sinclair Broadcasting will no longer allow Mediacom cable system to broadcast its Pensacola station (WEAR TV) and its FWB station (whatever it is) as of midnight. Mediacom serves Gulf Breeze, Pensacola Beach and Santa Rosa County.
The growing sentiment is let WEAR go, rather raise cable bills just to get the two SB stations. People will find other shows on other networks to watch. The off hours of the ABC station are filled with infomercials – very little local programming. What could be a dominate news medium is watered down with features few people in Santa Rosa County care about. Can anyone name a big story that WEAR covered that made a difference in the quality of life of Escambia and Santa Rosa county? Has it ever gotten behind an issue and advocated progressive? Does it have any editorial component to its local presence at all?
Pretty faces, no substance….Too many Angels in Our Midst segments and little on the real problems…
And who cares about their sister station from Ft. Walton Beach? BLAB and the Weather Channel have bigger audiences.
What I want to see is WEAR reduce its ad rates after it loses 25% of its market.
