Through a public records request, Inweekly has received the name of the 48-year-old who died in the Escambia County Jail on Sunday, Nov. 2.
James Breacher Brumley was awaiting trial for a DUI arrest in which he left the scene of the accident and for driving without a license. According to court records, Brumley was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 28 by the Pensacola Police and found dead five days later in the county jail.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating Brumley’s death. Initial indications are that the death was a suicide, however, exact cause of death will not be definitive pending the Medical Examiner’s autopsy report.
Another jail death in 2005 is one of the incidents that triggered the U.S. Department of Justice investigation of the county jail. Landfill Woes, the Sequel
Waste Management has a temporary permit to store waste at its Longleaf site, near Marcus Point and Wedgwood communities.
Dr. Gloria Horning has reported to the county that she has received a call from a Marcus Pointe resident wanting to know who to contact about a smell of trash for the last couple of months. She has also said the county has been getting complaints from as far away as Longleaf Elementary School.
“We are in a crisis,” said Horning. “Rolling Hills and the other dumps int his area could very well be poisoning the entire north side district. I am requesting that the Escambia Environmental Department, post haste, do monitoring of the air, water and soil of these different areas.”
Last Friday, Dr. Horning provided Inweekly with a letter from the director of protection services for the Escambia County Schools concerning the children at Longleaf Elementary School. Read Rolling Hills.
Baby, it will get cold again
The weather reports are the city of Pensacola will have night temperatures in the 40’s starting Thursday. Inweekly keeps hearing the city will be addressing the recommendations from its homeless task force. Maybe we will see some action from city hall this week.
Yesterday the body of a man believed to be homeless was found in Escambia Bay near Wayside Park at the foot of the Pensacola Bay bridge.
