1. Last trial on Okaloosa County Sheriff kickback schemes
Former Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office employee Randall Holcombe faces court today in Pensacola charges for racketeering and grand theft charges–the last trial involving Sheriff Charlie Morris’ bonus kickback schem. Morris’ assistant director of administrative services, according to FBI investigators, received $92,973 in bonuses from the sheriff and returned $18,000 of it. Holcombe also used prisoners as his personal work crew. Former co-workers alleged that Holcombe used inmates to work on personal projects for him and to assist Morris’ wife, Barbara, at her estate sales business.
Holcombe was arrested Nov. 18, 2010. He was the seventh person arrested in the scandal. Read more in the Daily News.
2. Next month Hamburg, Germany hosts the 2012 Aviation Forum which focuses on globalization and innovation and offers an academic approach to industrial supply chains. The Mobile Press Register reports consultants for Airbus will making a presentation there on the proposed Mobile, Ala. facility. Will this be another trip for the Chamber and Commissioner Valentino? 3. IMPACT hands out over $700,000
Seven community organizations were awarded $104,000 grants each Sunday by Pensacola Bay Impact 100:
- Friends of the Saenger, Inc. – Project: The Great Saenger Pipe Organ – Restoring the Heartbeat of Lady Saenger
- Milk and Honey Outreach Ministries, Inc. – Project: “Going Places†Transportation Initiative
- Pensacola Lighthouse Association, Inc. – Project: Restoration of the Pensacola Lighthouse
- Autism Pensacola, Inc. – Project: Parent Empowerment Pensacola (PEP)
- Manna Food Bank, Inc., dba Manna Food Pantries – Project: A Chilling Impact on Food Security
- Appetite for Life, Inc., dba Appetite 4 Life – Project: Equipped 4 Success
- Escambia Search and Rescue, Inc. – Project: The Advancement for Search, Rescue and Recovery for Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties
Since 2003, IMPACTÂ has given over $4.3 million in grants.
