Weekly Wood report

From Charles Wood, Senior VP Economic Development, Pensacola Chamber:

Following the Royals to Miami – After speaking during the breakfast ceremony this morning which hosted both the Spanish Ambassador and Consul General, I will be in Miami tomorrow for the business meeting which will include several Spanish companies that focus on renewable energy, and in particular the solar industry. The invitation was provided almost exclusively to Chambers of Commerce around the state as Chambers (particularly in Europe) are considered to be the preeminent business organizations and companies cannot open their doors without going through a Chamber of Commerce.

Multi-State Collaboration – As a result of the relationships that we are building across the gulf coast, I was in Mobile on Tuesday to meet with economic development representatives from Mississippi and Alabama as well as staff from Florida’s Great Northwest to discuss aerospace and defense marketing innitiatives. This effort will focus on building an aerospace corridor along I-10. More to come on this later…

One more time… – With the opportunity to take down $2 million in infrastructure funding from the Federal Economic Development Administration, we sent in what will hopefully be our final application for funding out this week (this makes four if you are counting). If we are successful in attaining the funding, this will mean that close to half of the technology campus infrastructure will be funded by the EDA. Many thanks to the West Florida Regional Planning Council as well as our co-applicants and partners, ECUA, the City and Escambia County.
