VEHICLE FEES: A Senate committee will take up a proposal by Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, to roll back vehicle-registration fees that were increased in 2009. The proposal would save motorists about $12 per vehicle registration and is a top priority of Senate leaders such as Negron, who is chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Gov. Rick Scott has proposed a deeper reduction in the fees, which were increased in 2009 because of a budget shortfall.
RESIDENCY: Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, and Rep. Ray Rodrigues, R-Estero, will hold a news conference to discuss legislation that would create new residency requirements for candidates and elected officials. The proposal comes after questions about whether some lawmakers live in the districts they were elected to represent.
FAMU PRESIDENT: The Florida A&M University Board of Trustees could choose a new university president, filling a position that has been open since James Ammons stepped down last year. The past two years have been tumultuous for FAMU, as it has dealt with issues such as the hazing death of a Marching 100 band member.
