On “Real News” this week, we hit the 3,900 milestone for interviews. We should top 4,000 interviews before Thanksgiving, a remarkable achievement considering our show only runs 90 minutes. The topics that received the most listens involved IMPACT 100 grants, county politics, the dark side of the strong-mayor form of government, American Magic and WAVE Center, and Poo at Bruce Beach.
1. IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area chose 12 grant recipients at this year’s Annual Meeting held yesterday. These nonprofit organizations will each receive a grant of $100,670 from the members of IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area. Kristin Longley shared the details and announced a new award.
2. Commissioner Jeff Bergosh discussed OLF-8 and shares his views on countywide districts for commissioners. Jeff is always a solid interview and unafraid to express his opinions.
3. North Hill Preservation president Melanie Nichols shared how she was harassed when she tried to get information about Divine Word Communications’s proposed radio tower in a flood-prone Long Hollow conservation district in 2015. Listeners would never hear Nichols on the other news talk station because it used the tower. I gave more background on the incident in my Outtakes: Tower Finally Toppled.
4. (tie) Triumph Gulf Coast chair David Bear discusses the latest grants for Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. People loved hearing about the UWF WAVE Center at the Port of Pensacola and its connection to American Magic.
Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves shared the latest on the sewer leak impacting the stormwater outflow near Bruce Beach and discussed the CRA plans. The discussion is candid and frank.
