Whatever happened to CMP Children’s Playground…apparently nothing

In April, attorney Eric Stevenson told the Community Maritime Park Associates board that he represented an anonymous donor who pledged $25,000 to the CMPA board to construct a children’s playground.

He challenged the CMPA and City to initiate a 120-day pledge drive to raise $250,000 for the park, in addition to the $25,000 anonymous donation. CMPA Board Chairman Collier Merrill said at the meeting constructing a playground for kids is a top priority for the board. No board members objected to the effort.

The 120 days have passed. Stevenson sent a letter on August 29 to the CMPA inquiring into the status of the fundraising–whether the fundraising goal was achieved or how close is the CMPA to reaching the goal.

“I need to know whether I will be sending the money back in my trust account back to my client,” wrote Stevenson, “or whether I need to forward it to you to fulfill the gift, so please respond as soon as you can.”
