Who will replace Johnny Rogers

The daily newspaper reports, as many suspected, that Santa Rosa County Superintendent of Schools Johnny Rogers will retire and not run for re-election in 2008. There was some speculation that Rogers might resign early and push to have Gov. Crist appoint a successor that Rogers hand-picked but that will not be the case.
The two early possibilities are former Gulf Breeze High School principal Cherry Fitch and current school board member Ed Gray, III.  Fitch retired in 2006 and is working in real estate. She has expressed interest in running for school board if Gray decided not to run for re-election. However, she would be an excellent superintendent.

Gray would be a strong candidate, too, in the Don Gaetz. He is the former of GB mayor and currently heads the city’s loan pool operations.
