Who wins Ron vs. Don

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been in the presidential race for a week. How has his “Make America Florida” message doing against former President Donald Trump’s MAGA army?

Far from being an impartial observer, The Lincoln Project’s chief of staff Ryan Wiggins shares her thoughts.

Ryan was an intern with Inweekly in 2002.

On Twitter Spaces launch: “Man, what a bad first start.

“Like lord of mercy, first, a guy who has been planning to run for president since before he got reelected as governor, you would’ve thought he had this down a little bit better, and to have Elon Musk who owns Twitter on with him and them not be able to get this thing going.

I mean, they had essentially announced his presidential run in a conference call.”

Next misstep: “Since then, he has stepped in some pretty major piles.

“I mean, this past week he talked about how in the instance that he was elected, the very first thing he would do is look into all of these people who were convicted from 1/6.

“Last week, we saw that there were true militia guys who were arrested for sedition and were jail or have been convicted of sedition.”

It’s different outside of Florida: “This man has never really been tested on any scale. He doesn’t do well with the Florida Press Corps, the National Press Corps is going to eat him alive.

“There’s talk in right-wing circles of it’s just not his time, and that’s being put out by the Trump people.

“As we all know, I cannot stand Donald Trump, but I do think that he will likely be the nominee. I think that it is not Ron DeSantis his time. He just is too green.”

What to expect: It’s going to be interesting watching him and Trump go at each other’s necks for the next several months because Trump has decided that that is his biggest competition and so he’s gonna tear him apart.

“And that back and forth is gonna be great for people who don’t like either one of them like me… it’s gonna be not great for the country though.”
