The political question on everyone’s mind yesterday was, “Why did the Escambia County Commission suddenly vote to trade the Escambia County Area Transit to the City of Pensacola?” It sounded like an article the Independent News would write in its April’s Fool issue.
Next we may hear that the county commissioners want to trade two administrative assistants and a cabinet maker for a sanitation engineer and two fireman to be named later.
The inside scoop we get is that the commissioners are frustrated with the city council for not coming to the table on either the library or the bus system and are trying to force the issue and make the council discuss them.
Seems like a lame way to go about it. Any county commissioner can get on the phone and call a city council person. They are on different government bodies and can talk with each other without violating Sunshine laws. For many, this latest political blunder just proves the need for consolidation.
