Why were Children’s Trust proposals rejected?

After spending four hours reviewing dozens of proposals for out-of-school time programs in late November, the grant committee chair Tori Woods made a motion at the full board meeting last week to send the recommendations, totaling $4.3 million, back to the committee for more review. Only one board member voted against her motion.

Why? Local providers and board members pointed out several inconsistencies in the review process established by the Trust staff. The lack of preparation for the meeting caused delays in starting the discussion at the grant review meeting.

Proposers were not allowed to answer questions, and the review committee and staff made incorrect assumptions about the proposals. Some proposals were given special treatment, and staff did nothing to verify information in the proposals.
