Wild West ECSO on trial

The lawsuit between Addison Salter and Escambia County deputies Tim Taylor and Jeremy Jarman in federal court as brought out the Wild West attitude of some deputies. The suit alleges they used excessive force when arresting him at a high school Valentine’s dance at the Hadji Shrine Temple.

I know Addison – actually coached him in rec basketball. He and his twin sister were classmates on one of my daughters. He is not this smug, violent rich kid that deputies are trying to portray. He’s parents are middle class. He was a soccer player and A/B student.

The ECSO deputies were arresting the wrong boy, Adam Roth, who they thought had started a fight. Roth was never charged. Addison and others were trying to get the deputies to listen. There was a lot of shouting and yelling that did escalate as the deputies got more violent with Roth. Strangely no adult chaperones stepped in to help calm the situation.

Addison should have let things alone and let the deputies haul his innocent friend to jail and let the attorneys sort it out. But he didn’t. However, he didn’t deserve to be attack by the police dogs.
