Keith Wilkins, Escambia County’s Community & Environment director, may have the inside track to being the next assistant city administrator. Wilkins could bring much need government experience to city hall, having worked for the county since January 1999.
This isn’t the first time that Wilkins has been considered for a city job. During Mayor Ashton Hayward’s first term, he was up for a cabinet level position in which he would have supervised engineering, planning, neighborhood services and possibly parks and recreations. However, the mayor abandoned the cabinet concept and never pulled the trigger on hiring Wilkins.
Wilkins has received several honors for his environmental work, playing a key role during the BP oil spill.
